Our mission and vision sets us apart from the standard window business. We appreciate all your support and have some exciting news: you can help Indow Windows win a chance at getting a commercial during the Big Game this February! That’s right, we are entered in a contest to showcase why our company should really take off and soar.
We will be putting together a cool video and will have that to you in the coming weeks, so make sure to stay tuned. Most importantly, VOTE FOR US! Simply go to this link [every day] and hit that friendly yellow button next to our name: http://intuit.me/13GUw23
What keeps customers coming back to your business?
We improve customers’ quality of life by providing comfort. Their rooms become instantly more energy efficient and warmer. Our window inserts hush the city noise of loud traffic and barking dogs.
And people are grateful for the simplicity: edged with the same spongy material around a fridge door, the inserts press into window frames without destructive hardware. We handcraft them in our Portland, Oregon warehouse with materials 100 percent Made in the USA. No fortune spent replacing drafty windows or blow drying plastic wrap over them. Heating bills drop. Contentment and happiness soar.
What’s been your proudest moment?
We quickly realized most windows are out of square. We developed a laser measuring system so any dealer in the country can measure any window, send the data electronically and have the inserts fit perfectly. We’ve made 5,000 Indow Windows and can count on a hand and a foot the number that didn’t fit right. That’s a remarkable success rate and it means a lot: we can dramatically shrink the nation’s carbon footprint if we can get Indow Windows into the 32 million homes with single-pane windows. People have noticed: we’re proud of our many awards for creating a more energy-efficient world.
What one piece of advice would you give to another small business?
My best advice: ask for advice. Entrepreneurs start out with great strengths but also weaknesses. Often they make the mistake of holding ideas close when they should reach out to those they trust who can help them move in the right direction much faster than they would on their own. As you grow, the emphasis shifts to building a team with people who complement your strengths. Find those who can do things you haven’t mastered, who see what you don’t see. Build a team that believes in what you’re doing. Trust them to do their jobs and they will work hard alongside you.
What makes your business special?
Glass windows have been around for 2000 years, so getting a patent in 2011 for a radically simplified form of window was a great accomplishment. We use acrylic edged with our patented compression tube to handcraft each one. Our inserts appear simple but developing the process for making them wasn’t. Most windows are out of square. To make inserts that always fit perfectly we developed a proprietary laser measurement system to ensure each insert fits all the one-of-a-kind windows out there. Each insert we make is unique and that’s why we are too.
